Ohhhhhhhhver Half Way There!

I did it! I did 8 miles!!! In a little less than 2 hours! I am one happy girl! Only a little bit of hip flexor pain...pfft did I say little?! It was the most pain I have had after working out. I couldn't lift my leg to walk up the stairs. It hurt while sleeping too. I know this means I need to take my warm-up more seriously than I have in the past.

I am completely guilty of not warming up... I always just want to get into the work out and not waste time or energy. I now understand I probably wouldn't be in such pain if I had warmed up. Is this what growing up in the running world means?? If so I am happy I am at least progressing.

I also just completed my registration for the Mickey and Minnie Royal Family 5k!!! Ahhhh!!! I can not wait to spend the time in EPCOT. I hope there will be good characters. That way I can run past them at the half.

Okay well tons of work needs to be done and hopefully to bed early tonight.

Healthiness Is Not Just A Frame Of Mind

I feel like after detoxing my body hasn't gotten back to 'normal' or what I guess I would consider normal. But until last August I hadn't really taken care of myself since let's say high school.... Staying up late, not drinking enough water, not eating regularly, eating bad when I did eat, not anywhere near enough sleep.

Now, I am working towards drinking 8 glasses of water a day. I go to bed at a reasonable time and most importantly I am learning to say no. I am taking time for myself more now.

It is not easy by any means. The cold weather also gives a bit of seasonal depression with it. It has been 12* F here today. The windchill made it feel 0*F. I do not know how I ended up in New England but I can tell you this Alaskan cold weather we have had this week does not make me want to run.... I really could use a nice 60*F day so I can push it to 8 miles AT LEAST.

On a Disney note the Disneyland Half, 10k and the Dumbo Double Dare sold out in RECORD time. I am okay with that. Although I'd love to try it someday I am more motivated for the Tower of Terror 10 miler and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. I will be saving my money for those. OH! and the Expedition Everest 5K. I am pysched for that!

....But really I need to complete the Princess Half before anything... I'm trying not to get ahead of myself.
Now to spend time with my two boys <3

WOW!

So I definitely didn't realize how long it has been since I posted...

Guess I kind of went through a roller coaster of emotion with this Princess Half Marathon coming up. I have made a serious effort to get healthier and to get my body ready to finish 13.1 miles. I detoxed for 2 weeks and limited unhealthy food and cut out alcohol all together. I have been drinking more water in the last 3 weeks than I ever have in my life! I am making a serious change for this event.

Really though, these past two weekends are what I really needed. Watching the pictures and the tweets from the 20th Anniversary Marathon and the Tinkerbell Half Marathon have reignited what I had back in September. I am so excited. Still nervous. But excited.

I ran today with one of my girlfriends.  It was an absolute blast, she has the perfect pace for me to mirror. We ended up doing 3.5 miles. The only issue is the lower body pain I have been feeling. First is the knee pain, then is the IT band pain, then is the hip flexor pain. I went out and bought KT Tape the other day and have been religiously using it. I love it!

A couple tips that I wish someone had said to me before my first time using it
-Wash the area with soap and water before applying
-Think about the areas you are taping, and in what order you will tape. I did hip flexor, it band, & knee... Next time I will start with the knee then go to the hip flexor and then do the it band. The way you need to have your body set up for the knee ruins the tape if you need to bend the hip flexor.
-Cut your strips before you even begin applying for all applications. It makes moving around after you apply one area limited.

I am trying to hit the 7 mile mark this week followed by a 9 mile... I need to hit 13.1 before I leave for Florida. I think that will ease all my jitters and give me a decent idea of my finishing time.

Alright well dinner time and then to bed. Another busy day tomorrow. My goal this week is to make time for myself and my running.

Wish me luck!
