Pluto Family Fun Run 5k: Volunteer Status

Boy oh Boy did 2.30am come around fast!. Sammy and I got dressed and zombie walked ourselves to the car. When we got to EPCOT we literally had to park in the second to last space in the opposite direction. We couldn't help but laugh.

When we got to the Volunteer tent we were given jackets and something to eat. Small snacks and water but it sure was delicious.

Sammy and I both were given the Refreshment Test Assignment. I could not have been happier! OCD in full bloom. We spent all morning organizing boxes and bananas.

Although it was a little hard for me to not be running the 5k I seriously enjoyed the Pluto theme. Anytime puppies are involved I can't help it.

Loved the jacket!

We got put in a group with some awesome volunteers and had so much fun with them. One of the girls and I would definitely have been friends outside of this gig. We both booked it for the characters before runners arrived to snag some photos. I wasn't about to give up that opportunity! Donald however was seriously twerking when I arrived for my photo. Odd, yet very eye opening.

Love these two nuts!

It was so amazing to give out the refreshment boxes to runners and get to congratulate them. I loved the feeling of every moment. I will definitely be looking for more opportunities to volunteer for runDisney events. So many of them even took the time to say "Thank you Meg!"....freaked me out they knew who I was, until I realized I had a name tag on....yup.

On our way back to the car, which we parked near the Magic Kingdom............ we saw them putting up the 10k banner. We started to get so pumped!

Sammy hadn't gotten a chance to get her bib and shirt and visit the expo so we swung by there after the 5k. It was completely empty compared to the day before.

Is it bad I saw this shirt and wanted to get it for Ace.... I can't wait until I do run a marathon. Then he WILL be wearing this shirt.

You could actually see the floor in the New Balance area today as opposed to the day before.

I mean look how empty!

I had to share a real dream on mine on the chalkboard on the New Balance wall. I really would love to have an end to BSL one day, soon.

At this point Sammy and I still hadn't signed up for Cinderellas Royal Family 5k...but we couldn't deny it any longer! Look at this fabulous medal we will be adding to our collection!

All of the Princess Half Weekend Medals I will be adding to my post race swagger.

After the expo we went back to the room and crashed, big time. I can't remember if we even ate. We probably did but I know we were so spent that we just wanted to sleep. We had dinner reservations at Teppan Edo later on.

Once we arrived in EPCOT we walked towards Japan. I was SO excited we took the route we did because we had to pass through Morocco. The Spice Road Table is what I think Morocco needed to save itself.

The only thing open at that time (by open, I mean, not covered in walls was the Juice Bar.

After that bit of excitement I couldn't wait to eat! On to Teppan Edo!

I love this meal so much.

Mmmmm green tea cheesecake

On our way back to our room we double checked the schedule.

Flat Meg was ready! Not only did I have a great outfit with another skirt customized by A Princess Prerogative but we were able to grab a box of runners goodies at the food court. It had an apple, a bagel, peanut butter and a water. I love that Disney has thought about their runners. And of course my cheez-it's. My go-to snack before I run. It happens to be one of the only things I can eat without feeling sick when I'm running.

I set my alarm and even though Sammy and I knew we needed to sleep the darn Disney Channel always gets you, Radio Rebel was on and you better believe we watched it till the end.

Virtual runDisney Blog Hop - Best Post Race Cocktails

If you are hopping around our fabulous runDisney Blog Hop... WELCOME! Are you trying to learn about your very first runDisney event before it happens or wanting to find something new to add to your post race tradition? Well, THIS is the place to be.
Virtual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Blog Hop Directory

Let's get real for a second.

You just ran 3.1, 6.2, 13.1 26.2 OR you spectated someone you love do those. The first (okay maybe, second) thing your body needs, wants, DESERVES is a good drink to celebrate. Now, if you know me, and well I hope you should want to. I love a good beverage, if it's adult it's even better!

Princess Half Marathon 2013

I think the best way to break down your numerous options is to break them into categories.

Resorts, Parks and Downtown Disney

Lets start with the resorts.

Boardwalk Inn and Villas

There are a few options at Disney's Boardwalk.
Jellyrolls, although not open directly after the morning races is a blast of a place to celebrate at.
Jellyrolls-32 oz Sex on the Beach

Kouzzina at breakfast is a dream come true. While you are snacking on Golden Waffles you can sip this beauty.
Kouzzina- Sunrise Sangria

At night Boardwalk Joe's is open for business, you should consider yourself lucky enough to have the opportunity to taste one of the most delicious margaritas on property.

Boardwalk Joe's - Wildberry Margarita

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Although I personally opt for a margarita on the rocks this one from Sanaa happens to hit the spot as a frozen drink.
Sanaa- Mango Margarita

Parks

EPCOT

San Angel Inn - Classic Margarita

La Cava del Tequila- Passion Fruit Margarita

Japan Sake Bar

France- Pommegrante Kir

American Adventure- Angry Orchard (Food and Wine Festival)

MGM (yup, I said it)

One of my new favorite places is the Brown Derby Lounge, it is adorable and quaint and the perfect spot to get out of the sun. If you think one margarita is good, three are better!
Brown Derby Lounge- Citizen's Take Flight

Before the opening of the Brown Derby Lounge, the Tune in Lounge attached to 50's Prime Time Cafe was one of the best places to get a drink. This one is under 'Dad's Cocktails' on the menu.
Tune In Lounge- Patron Platinum Margarita

Animal Kingdom

The bar here is somewhat hidden and can get very busy, if you get lucky and there is a seat open, grab it, the bartenders are so much fun to talk to.
Dawa Bar- African Margarita

When I said this drink is a hidden gem, it could not be more serious. On your way to Asia there is a small stand on the left. GET THIS.
Asia- Island Margarita

Downtown Disney

Everyone is Irish when they go to Raglan Road, not in the mood for Guinness? This is the perfect option for non-beer drinkers.
Raglan Road- Magner's Hard Cider

I hope you are excited for your journey towards runDisney bling and your post race cocktail. This is only a small sampling of the options available on Disney property. Remember to always drink responsibly and NEVER ever drive after you have drank, transportation is always available.

Keep hopping along and maybe I'll see you at Marathon Weekend 2014!

Mickey's Jingle Jungle 5k Recap & MORE

11.09.13

This might be the only time in your life you are excited for an early wake up! The Jingle Jungle 5k was finally here!

The night before I carefully laid out my clothes. Pink was most definitely the theme of the race. I couldn't wait to wear my Aurora crown, truthfully. I may be wearing it right now as I write this up....

We got in line for the bus and made it to the Animal Kingdom parking lot very early, we ended up being one of the first buses there. Per the runDisney emails there was an added bag check, similar to the ones you go through in the parks. It was quick and painless and personally I feel better knowing that there is a security check point like that.

I was curious how they would decorate for this Winter themed race and I was not disappointed. Sammy and I didn't grab a photo here but I did end up taking a picture for a woman who I ended up seeing on Instagram 2 minutes later. Kinda cool and crazy at the same time! You never know who you'll meet!

The Start line was gorgeous <3

And yet again ladies and gentlemen, luck luck luck was on my side! We were only maybe the 10th in line when Minnie and Mickey came out to take pictures with us.

They were even pumping 'snow' into the parking lot!

After we continued to watch the line for Minnie and Mickey grow we walked to our corral to sit and stretch. It was very chilly in my opinion for this morning race, much chillier than the Royal Family 5k in February. I was incredibly happy to have a long sleeve on. It was great to people watch and see all the fabulous costumes people were wearing. Sammy and I agreed to go all out in 2014.

Ready to go!

And we're off! Corral C was CLASSY!

Of course once we ended up being about .25 or .50 in I had to go to the bathroom. I had definitely hydrated the day before...maybe too much! Once we made it to mile 1 I ended up being able to meet Brandi! We had talked on Twitter but never met in person. She's so bubbly and sweet! She was doing her own thing during the race and hung with us for a little.

Sammy and I stopped to visit my boy Baloo and Brandi ran ahead. I love this dude! Look how festive he is!

The next stop was Rafiki, the lines were definitely moving fast for photos at this point.

Turk was so festive!

Then we hit a wall. A photo taking wall... I felt bad for the Cast Member but he needed to hurry up. We had about 15 people behind us in line and then...wait...what... GOLF CARTS?!? Yup. We were officially the 'end of the line'. I didn't see them 'sweeping' people per say but security was there to silently encourage you to pick up the pace. We took our photo with King Louie and booked it through Asia!

Mile 2 came up nice and fast.

Donald's line was long too but too perfect to pass up.

We got nervous when we saw the golf carts again and picked up our pace. We passed on Pluto which made me very very sad but his line was a little long. Next time puppy. Next time. As we were winding back into the parking lot I saw an alligator with a Santa hat. Would wouldn't want to grab a quick seat?

Mile 3 came up very fast and we saw the finish line awaiting us!

I was very proud to have finished another runDisney event and to have my best friend by my side. And lets be real for a second. This crown looks fabulous.

Another medal to add to my collection.

Once we made it back to the room we decided to lay down until our lunch reservations. I have been obsessed with the boxes you get after you finish since the Princess Half. I got extremely excited to see what they had this race. P.S. THANK YOU FOR THE HANDLES!

Here are all the snacks included.

I just laid in bed and couldn't fall into a deep enough sleep to feel it so I just relaxed. Our lunch time reservation was at the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club.

I figured I would stick to to something my body has had before mozzarella, basil and ciabatta is in my blood. But even for me there was wayyyyy too much cheese.

This was such a delicious dessert. An apple crisp buckle, cranberries and yogurt gelato with graham cracker crumbles.

Back to the room again for some more rest and relaxation until the big race.
